Tips for an Easy Seasonal Closet Changeover

As the weather changes, so do your wardrobe needs. Swapping out your clothes for the season helps you find what you need faster and keeps things tidy. Here’s a simple guide to help you switch out your clothes each season.

Empty Your Closet

Take everything out—YES, I mean everything… clothes, shoes, accessories, all of it.

Sort Your Clothes

Now it’s time to decide what stays and what goes. Create three piles:

  1. Keep: Things you love and wear often.

  2. Donate: Items that are in good shape, but you no longer wear.

  3. Toss: Worn-out or damaged clothes that aren’t worth keeping.

Clean the Closet

I know, this adds some work you didn’t count on but the time to do it is while your closet’s empty!

Plan for the New Season

Take a look at your "keep" pile and think about what you’ll need for the upcoming season. Consider the weather, any special events, and your day-to-day activities. Make sure your seasonal essentials are easy to reach.

Store Out-of-Season Clothes

For the items you won’t need for a while, put them in a bin or bag that’s clearly labelled and  store them in a cool, dry place.

Organize Your Current Wardrobe

Now that your closet is clean and your out of season clothes are stored, it’s time to organize what’s left. Here are a few ideas:

  • Group by Like with Like: Hang similar items together (shirts, pants, dresses) to make them easy to find.

  • Sort by Color: Within each group, you can arrange by color for a nice, organized look.

Keep It Tidy All Season

After all your hard work, keep things in check by setting a reminder to reorganize every few months. Make sure you’re wearing everything in your closet and adjust as needed.

Enjoy Your Organized Closet

Finally, take a moment to admire your newly organized space! Not only will it make getting dressed easier, but it’ll also make your closet feel much more welcoming.

Switching your closet for each season doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Follow these steps, to create an organized, functional space that’s ready for whatever the season throws at you.
